Our Bean Seeds?

Jake’s bean seed is going great guns!  Its sprout has grown the length of the plastic cup.  We are just waiting for it to shoot its first leaf now.

What do plants need to survive?

We have been continuing our experiment on our pansy plants.  The plant without water has become dehydrated and its leaves and stems are very droopy.  The plant without the leaves is continuing to grow but very slowly because it isn’t making as much food.  The plant in the cupboard is showing that it is losing its chlorophyll and its leaves are beginning to go yellow.  It needs the sunlight for photosynthesis.  The two plants that have been getting water, sunlight and still have their leaves are flourishing.  They are bright green, flowering and growing new buds.

Science Experiments

You can see on the celery stalk how it is beginning to turn blue from the blue food colouring in the water.  This shows how the stalk is absorbing the water up through it to the leaves and the very tip.

The Crysalis

We have a chrysalis that we really hope is going to emerge into a beautiful monarch butterfly.  Each day the V.I.P. sprays the chrysalis and checks its progress.
