Our Red Goo

I found the experiment hard to complete. Our different ingerdients were: cornflour, water and red food colouring. It looked very gooyey and slimy. But it was a lot of fun.

Mini Beast Visit

On Wednesday 21st August at 10 o’clock until 11 o’clock 2L went to the After School Care Building.  A man called Adam came.  He came because we are learning about plants and mini beasts in our backyard.  We saw stick insects, spiders, scorpians and snails.  We saw lots of mini beasts and we had fun.

My interesting creature that I chose to write about is snails.  Adam said that snails haven’t got girl and boy parts and I saw a snail moving.  I was impressed with Adam because he was not scared at all.  In case you didn’t know there are rain forest snails. The snail was slimy!  By Sidhya 2L

The Lonely Spider

One beautiful spring day Mr Jake went to the shops to buy some flower seeds.  The flower seeds cost $20,13.  He planted them in his garden.  After three weeks the flowers turned into beautiful pansies.  Mr Jake didn’t know that a spider named Felix was under his pansies.  After two weeks the pansies went all droopy and Felix was sad because he wasn’t in his natural habitat. When Mr Jake saw his pansies all droopy he picked up the vase and chucked out all of the pansies with Felix.  When Felix landed he saw the most beautiful spider in his whole life.  Her name was Julie.  She said, “Why are you so sad?”

“Because I have lost my habitat and I have no home,” said Felix.

“Why don’t you come and live with me.  I have no home either.”

“Will you marry me?” said Felix.

“Of course I will marry you,” said Julie.  They kissed and spun a web together.

All Mixed Up

This term we are learning about mixtures.  We have learnt that chefs, wizards and scientists all create mixtures using different substances.  These mixturews could be called recipes, spells or experiments.  This week we mixed powdered icing sugar, cocoa powder and popped rice to find out what happens.  We learnt that some mixtures are homogeneous.  This huge word means that once you have mixed the ingredients together, you can’t unmix them easily.  Other mixtures are

.  If you took a sample from the popped rice and icing sugar, you could get a popped rice or just some icing sugar.  Some mixtures can be separated again.  You could separate icing sugar and the popped rice using a fine sieve.  These photographs show the mixtures.

Our Insect Stories

Once upon a time there lived an ant.  His name was Caleb.  He was very thirsty.  He found a puddle.  He ran to it but even before he got there it was gone.  All the slugs had drunk the big puddle.  He found another puddle and drank it all and then the ant went home.  By Caleb

Once upon a time there lived a caterpillar and it was green with white spots.  She found some leaves.  She ate some then she went to a beautiful tree that she saw.  She made a chrysalis.  It took three weeks before she hatched.  She was a bright pink butterfly.  She fluttered away to find a boyfriend.  She found a boy but he didn’t like her.  She found another boy and he liked her.  They kissed.  Then she laid eggs.  The End  By Montaya

My Spider Story by Zac

Once upon a time there were two little spiders whose names were Connor and Zac.  They had two body parts and they were a head, an abdomen and eight legs.  They each made a web.  Connor and Zac joined their webs together.  They caught 900,999 bees, butterflies, ants and flies.  Only one bee survived because he flew through the hole in the web and then he left.  Connor and Zac turned around and shot out a web.  They grabbed him and siad, “Do you think you are going to escape?’

“No way,” said Zac.  “You are going to be eaten!”
